Magic and Mayhem Come to Leon’s World

The magic of theatre will continue to hold young audiences spellbound as Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development brings new and interesting tales to the stage. In the month of February the Gillo Repertory Theatre will perform the curious tale of Mister Jeejeebhoy and the Birds.

Adapted for the stage from the story by Anitha Balachandran, this is a tale of magic and mayhem. The story begins with two sisters, Diya and Tara coming to stay with their aunt, Nina Masi. Unfortunately, they are unable to make friends in the neighborhood and their aunt’s home also has some weird quirks like talking photographs and clocks that go backwards. The one bright spot in their existence is Miter Jeejeebhoy’s sweetshop with its most delectable treats. Mister Jeejeebhoy collects birds as a hobby and one day they all manage to escape and fly away. The bereft Mister Jeejeebhoy closes shop and sets off to search for his birds. The girls are discovering magic in themselves and Diya even learns to fly. What happens next? Will Mister Jeejeebhoy find his birds and once again open his amazing sweetshop? How will the girls use their magical powers? Watch the play to delve deeper into this enchanting tale.

Mister Jeejeebhoy And The Birds staged by Gillo Repertory Theatre was originally commissioned by the Kala Ghoda Children’s Literature Festival as a part of the KALA GHODA ARTS FESTIVAL 2012 in Mumbai. The play has been performed to resounding applause in Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune and Bangalore, at schools, literature festivals and in theatres. Shaili Sathyu is the Founder and Artistic Director of Gillo Repertory Theatre. Gillo Repertory Theatre works in Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA), creating performing arts experiences that engage children and young adults with theatre in particular and the arts in general.
