Cricket – there is no other sport in India that can arouse the insane level of fervour, competitiveness and what one would call in local lingo ‘dhamaal.’ So it was no surprise that the Box Cricket Tournament organised at Rustomjee Urbania saw a massive turnout of both spirited players and enthusiastic spectators. Held on the weekend of the 27th and 28th of October, a precursor to the Diwali vacations, there were 8 teams in the Under 12 category and 4 teams in the Under 14 category.
Over the course of the weekend the matches had the players and spectators on tenterhooks as the fortunes of the teams changed with every over. Almost 200 people, many who were not residents of Rustomjee Urbania, cheered on their favourite teams and the atmosphere was no less than that of a World Cup final.
The winners in Under 12 category were the Vikhrolians with Khiladi Connect as the runner up and Chandra Prakash from their team was declared the Man of the Match. Dangerous 7 from Andheri emerged victorious in the Under 14 category, Akhbar from their team walked away with the Man of the Match honours in the final match.
It was a brilliant and energetic start to the vacation and not just the players, but all present really got into the spirit of the game. The teams displayed great sportsmanship which is what matters most at the end of the day. Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development and Rustomjee Urbania will continue to organise such tournaments which celebrate fitness, wellness and the love of the game.
