When over one hundred and twenty children and parents gather to see Ramleela and the show has to be staged twice to accommodate all in the audience – one can be sure that Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development is making a big impact on the families who not only reside in Rustomjee Urbania but in the surrounding localities as well.
Leon’s World hosted ‘Ramleela… Relive the Story’ which was staged by Grooming Babies Global Pvt. Ltd. on the 7th of October. They introduced the audience to the centuries old tradition of staging Ramleela during the festival of Dussehra. Based on the historic epic Ramayana, the story traces the life of Ram, the ideal man, his devoted wife Sita and his loyal brother Laxman who gave up a life of luxury and undertook the trials of being banished from their kingdom just to keep their father’s word. The practice of staging Ramleela continues to this day in the small towns and villages of India. The UNESCO has even declared the Ramleela to be a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage” of our country.
Grooming Babies and Leon’s World brought the wonder of Ramleela to Rustomjee Urbania in a specially simplified narrative brought alive through dramatization of handcrafted puppet characters, background music, interactivity and humour. The children and parents were quite enamoured by the presentation of Ramleela and the loud cheer that accompanied the defeat of Ravana showed how involved the audience was with the performance. One of the parents complimented the team at Leon’s World and said, “I am really thankful to Leon’s World for bringing such an important aspect of Indian culture to our children. This is something no city kids experience and I’m happy I decided to bring my son for this performance.”
