Ravan Dahan may have been celebrated a bit early at Leons World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development, but the kids certainly enjoyed themselves and learnt a valuable lesson besides.
On Sunday, 14th October, almost a hundred parents and children gathered at Leon’s World to participate in Ravan Dahan. This is the day when Ram destroyed the evil demon king Ravan and shows us that ultimately, no matter how hard the journey or the hardships one has to bear, good will always triumph over evil.
In order to teach children to be environment friendly, rather than burning the effigy of Ravan which is typically filled with fireworks, at Leon’s World, the effigy was crafted from colourful balloons filled with petals and the kids shot darts at it. Every time a balloon burst, there was a colourful shower of petals. The children felt a sense of accomplishment when all the balloons were burst and Ravan was destroyed.
But Leon’s World had more in store, as the DJ spun foot tapping music, parents and kids took part in ‘dandiya’ and ‘garba ras’. Traditional fare of sweets and savoury items were available at the stalls set up at the venue.
It was a most entertaining day for all. One of the kids was super excited, “I burst almost 10 balloons on Ravan, I think I got the most. This was so amazing, last year my parents took me to see Ravan Dahan on Dussehra day but there was so much smoke from the firecrackers I got a bad cough. This was so much more fun and best of all – I got to do it!”
