Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development hosted a phenomenal play based on a story by Anushka Ravishankar who many regard as ‘India’s Dr Seuss’. Presented by MTG | Astitva, the play ‘Catch That Crocodile’ saw an almost hundred strong audience following every move on the stage with rapt attention.
The kids had a wonderful time as the characters from a typical small town setting, like the doctor, policeman and wrestler, delivered their lines in a typical caricature manner. At the center of it all was of course the crocodile which to its misfortune had wandered into town and quickly become the centre of attention of all its inhabitants. The big question being – ‘How to get the crocodile back to the river?’ Probin Policeman, Doctor Dutta and Bhayanak Singh the wrestler all fail in their endeavors and the reptile remains firmly entrenched in the town. It is finally a young girl, Meena, who one would least expect to be able to face the crocodile, who manages to succeed where all the village stalwarts have failed. Rather than using force, she manages to lure and cajole the crocodile to the river with fish – after all one can achieve more with a carrot than a stick!
The play was a huge success and everyone gave it a standing ovation. One of the parents who had come with his daughter said, “I always bring my daughter to watch the plays at Leon’s World. It is such a wonderful and rare opportunity for children to get to see plays that are so appropriate for their age group. We thoroughly enjoy every play and some of them have such a unique way of presentation including puppetry. The best part is that every play has a moral which is imparted to the children in a very non-preachy manner.”
