On the 5th of August, an almost 100 strong audience were privy to a theatrical treat as Theatrix put on a superb show of the play Snow White Naughty Elves at Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development.
The children and adults watched with rapt attention as this age old tale unfolded with new twists and turns added at every stage of the story. The mad scientist who never gets any experiment to give the desired result stole the show as each new blooper elicited laughs and hoots from the audience. The Evil Queen was at her maleficent best and Snow White and the Elves were a delight. With the Magic Mirror giving advice and sometimes causing its own brand of problems, the play takes the audience to the ultimate ‘happily ever after.’ There was a standing ovation at the end of the performance – a testament to the acting skills and the innovative presentation of this much loved fairy tale.
The play was followed by a scintillating performance by the students of Rangbhumi. This was the final culmination of the Drama-in-Learning and Development Workshop which was conducted at Leon’s World Centre. A unique workshop, it aims at enabling children to express their creativity and imbues them with compassion, character and confidence. The workshop has been designed by Rangbhumi in the format of playback theatre, a participatory program that incorporates drama tools like learning and reflection.
Gauging from the response of the audience, of close to 50 people, the workshop was successful in giving the budding thespians the right guidance and platform to showcase their talents. One mother said, “my son is usually very shy and refuses to speak up in class also, I was pleasantly surprised to see him so confident on the stage today.”
All those present agreed it was definitely as Sunday morning well spent.
