Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers (RAGC), CSR initiative of Rustomjee Group, organized three day event called ‘NISARG’ which was held in Thane and Dahanu from 30th September to 2nd October, 2016. With the intent of increasing awareness of the students towards Safety, Health and Environment, at the same time supporting Indian Government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and taking forward Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of clean India; students and faculty of RAGC came together to host this special event.
NISARG, now in its fourth year, aims to take moral education into practice and shape the young minds of India into responsible citizens of tomorrow. The event focused on three broad themes – Health, Safety, and Environment (S.H.E) which are imperative in today’s times.
The first day of the event began with a grand inauguration ceremony and dance performance by students of Manovikas- special school for the mentally challenged. Expert lectures on ‘Safety’ were held for student on fire safety and other occupational hazards by industry experts on campus premises. The safety session was followed by Self-defense workshop for girls and “Alcoholism and Drug Addiction” seminar for boys. Additionally, counselling session on mental health issues such as depression and suicide was organized for all the students at Dahanu center. More than 1500 students and faculties attended these sessions at our Dahanu and Thane center.
To increase awareness about ‘Health’, a free dental camp and special yoga class was organized for students at Thane center. As a part of responsibility towards ‘Environment’, sapling planting and cleaning activities were conducted in the vicinity of the academy and Wagle Police Station. The cleaning activity was conducted by students and faculty together, showcasing their support towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Swachh Bharat. Students also engaged in competitions like wall painting and creating best out of waste items. As part of the event – a 5.5 km fitness run marathon was also organized by RAGC Dahanu center, in which more than 300 people participated raising awareness health issues.
Mr.Percy S. Chowdhry, Director, Rustomjee Group said, “Over the past four years, NISARG has reached 50000 people, spreading awareness on safety, health and environment among masses. We are very proud to say that our students and faculty have showed great enthusiasm towards supporting and conducting various activities that are for the benefit of the society. We believe that imbibing social values to children at an early age will reflect well on their behavior in later stages of life. Hence, this is one of our initiatives that has helped to create responsible citizens.”
On 2nd October 2016, Gandhi peace exam was conducted for the 2nd year MSBVEE students to spread the message of Gandhian values. Students made handmade paper bags which were distributed in schools, colleges, and commercial areas of Dahanu. Also, students performed flash mobs in shopping malls nearby to spread message of women empowerment, road and rail safety.
